Overview Lassen Volcanic National Park was established in 1916 and features a number of volcanic elements, including hydrothermal vents, lava flows, etc. We’ve been to Lassen several times! Both Mark and Tiffany went as kids. Tiffany as a young adult, and all of us in 2025. We’re looking forward to returning 2026. Maps Caltopo Map National Park Map. Gerstle Cove Camping

Camping and Hiking in Gerstle Cove Last weekend we scored a camping spot in the Gerstle Cove Camping Area. We stayed in site 16, using it as a base to hike from there. Overall the site was enjoyable however there were limited choices for the location of our tent within our site. Our campsite included a picnic table, a food storage (without a locking mechanism), and a fire ring. The fire ring is very tall, with S having trouble sitting in their U5 camp chair. ...

Black Miners Bar is on Lake Natoma in the Folsom State Recreation Area. Main features we’ve used are: Boat Launch Beach This area gets very busy early. Beach There is a large beach with a silt sand and pebble beach. Unlike most of Lake Natoma the beach extends fairly far out into the waterway. In a typical year a 6-foot person could easily walk 30-40 feet into the water before needing to swim. ...

Truckee Tunnels Hike Trail Report Alright, so Tiffany insists the correct name is the “Donner Tunnels Trail”. Of course, she is correct. Overall the trip was enjoyable. Despite being a hot day the tunnels were cool. A slight draft when in the tunnels which was only really noticeable around the portals. Trail Condition and Geography We began at the top of the trail at Tunnel #6 and descended towards Truckee. The descent is around railroad grade which is mostly noticeable on the way back up.
