Camping and Hiking in Gerstle Cove
Last weekend we scored a camping spot in the Gerstle Cove Camping Area. We stayed in site 16, using it as a base to hike from there. Overall the site was enjoyable however there were limited choices for the location of our tent within our site.
Our campsite included a picnic table, a food storage (without a locking mechanism), and a fire ring. The fire ring is very tall, with S having trouble sitting in their U5 camp chair.
Weather
We intentionally were seeking a colder place to camp in July. Typically we see highs in the 90s and low 100s in mid-July. A nice chilly 50F - 65F while we were there. The sun was intense; allowing our solar panels to reach 87W around peak. It was nice to step in the sun if we were feeling a little chilly.
There were gentle breezes through the campsite most of the day. In late afternoon into early evening there were winds causing our dining fly to flap around.

Dinning Fly
There were several trees over our table in site 16. I was able to tie the dining fly over the several large trees over the table. This kept most of the table dry, especially on night 2 when there was precipitation overnight.
